American excitement under the Richmond lights,
Jimmy Johnson on pole for a Looney Tune night!
Johnson then Newman leads the pack,
Saddler spins - bringing first yellow on the track.

Newman takes green - Jeff Burton's in the wall,
Picked up both ponies from Chip Gnassi's stalls.
Then a huge mess puts the race under red,
Finally goes green & no one's using their head!

Texas Terry hits the wall and creates a big jam,
Newman takes restart - then DJ takes a slam!
No yellow flies until later Kenseth's tire blew,
All leaders dive in for attention by their crew.

Newman still leading - then caution 5 flies,
Cuz into the wall spins the number fifty-five.
Restart in air - again Newman's in command,
'Til Bobby Labonte 360'd - yellow by the flagman.

Back to racing - Newman has Tony on his tail,
Stewart takes the lead and then starts to sail.
Stewart now leads through a long green run,
This brings pits in a hurry by everyone.

Caution again flying - several caught a lap down,
Mikey's the new leader - then he too goes around!
Steve Park now leads after the big water spray,
He leads for awhile and through the ½ way.

No caution out - separately Casey and Kyle spin,
Ninth caution waving - slapping the wall is Benson.
Kenseth takes green - going 3 wide is scary!
Tenth caution is out - pit road now gets hairy!

Ward takes point - then Kenseth takes a turn,
Teams all calculating their car's fuel burn.
Andretti spins round - no caution to see,
Kenseth is being tailed by Ryan and Rusty!

Rusty has flat and several are out of gas,
Tony also slow - all the leaders fly past.
Can Kenseth make it - no one seems to know,
But he takes checkered in the Monte Carlo 4-0-0!!
