MARTINSVILLE - Old Dominion 500 10/19/02

Rookie Newman on pole - Jeff Gordon by his side,
Green flag flies - the train is stacked double wide!
Two are quickly laps down - their tires going flat,
First yellow is flying - Andretti got tapped.

Pace car off - again Ryan pulls away,
But he can't keep Ward and Rusty at bay!
Hermie has problems - the yellow slows it down,
Blaney is new leader after the pit stop round.

On fresher tires - Rusty fronts the # 2,
Geoff Bodine gets tapped - 3rd caution flew.
Ward out first - then Bobby La brings # 4,
Leaders wanting tires - it's pit stops galore!

Ward stayed out & 2 others roll the dice,
The Busch takes a spin - into the pits they slice.
Cat car is awesome - Ward's on top again,
Sixth caution is flying for a Steve Grissom spin.

Restart in air - of course Ward's still on top,
Nemechek causes # 7 and bunched up pit stops!
Craven stayed out and assumed the lead,
Jeff Gordon's on pit road - Jeff Burton did the deed!

Craven still the player - coming to ½ way on the track,
Then quickly came a caution - smoke from the back.
Caution brings Spencer as he tapped Geoff Bodine,
Craven didn't pit and restarts first in line.

Quickly debris spotted - just as quick back to green,
Caution 10 waving - Mayfield's space got lean!
Racing again - all trying to find the groove,
Craven back to 2nd & Benson's on the move!

Caught in traffic Benson passed by Busch,
Yellow in air - into the wall Hideo was pushed!
All want tires and gas - pits like a open flood gate,
It's excitement under caution between the 44 & 48.

Busch takes restart - several bump and grind,
Elliot still on the front stretch - caught in a bind.
Leaders stay out and green again is in air,
They play bumper cars & tempers start to flare!

Front 10 switch up the last 30 of the race,
But still Kurt Busch is setting the pace.
Benson caught up - the last few road his rear,
But coming from the back it's Busch's 2nd career.
