KANSAS CITY - Protection ONE 400 - 9/29/02

Kansas poler is Junior - Johnson by his side,
Barely got going & several took a slide.
At least 9 damaged - a long time to clean,
Quickly a 2nd caution - for Mikey's NAPA machine.

Newman takes restart - but flying is caution three,
Sheppard, Shrader and others got real messy!
Newman leads to green - then a couple more drop too,
Now Blaney is spinning and yellow # 4 flew.

Several stay out while others dive in,
Harvick new leader - as we go green again.
Kevin pulls away - then Hamilton's in the wall,
Crews getting busy in every pit stall.

Benson new leader then Harvick comes back,
But here comes Jr. until debris on the track.
Newman back to point after varying pit stops,
Almost instantly Park causes 7th caution to drop.

Newman kicks it down & leads thru ½ way,
8th caution for Kirby - brings 'em to pit bays.
Elliot new leader - then it's Gordon's 24,
Sterling causes 9th caution - he's gonna be sore!

Still it's Gordon - thru a long green run,
Then pits under green lets several go to # 1.
After they cycle thru - Gordon still in the lead,
Then with only a few to go - caution for debris.

Front 3 stayed out - Martin is in trouble,
Goes behind the wall - crew is on the double!
Gordon takes restart with only 14 to go,
A wreck in turn 3 causes 11th yellow.

With only a few to go - NASCAR throws red,
Finally again it's green - Gordon's still ahead!
He takes checkered - a full race of fun!
And in the points Rookie Johnson is now # 1.
