INDY - BRICKYARD 400 8/4/02

Tony Stewart won pole for Indy's Brickyard,
Only a few down before the first yellow card.
A busy pit row - some beat and bang,
Junior out first as the restart rang!

Tony took back over - he and Elliot pull away,
Then a hard crash by Busch made 2nd yellow sway.
All go pitting - out first comes Awesome Bill,
Geoffrey Bodine goes spinning - left flat wheel.

Still leading is Elliot - 'til 4th yellow for debris,
Making the right pit call here is the key!
Stewart on point as the green flag falls,
But Elliot takes back over at the ½ way call.

Fifth caution waves - several back runners go in,
Elliot back to lead - after a blown Mayfield engine.
Sixth yellow flies - Casey took a hard hit,
Sterling stayed out but all others go pit.

Again it's Elliot - as green flies in air,
Saddler a flat tire - now 7th caution to bare.
Leaders go pitting - the crews take command,
DJ out 1st - but penalized for his catch can.

Mark Martin new leader - but Stewart shoots by,
Rusty then takes over - then Elliot starts to fly.
Eighth yellow flying - there's debris in turn 2,
Elliot a great restart and leads until checkered flew!
