Daytona 500 - 02/17/02

Rookie Johnson on pole - Harvick right beside,
Startin green waves - they're flying on the outside!
Harvick takes first - then on top it's team DEI
When Mikey & Jr. hook up - it's bye, bye, bye

All of a sudden debris takes Junior's tire down,
As yellow flies - all cars are pit bound.
Kenneseth now leading - then Shrader's on top,
Leads thru a long green - 'til worn tires bring pit stops.

Most go pitting - but the front 5 stay in line,
Barely up to speed & into the wall goes Brett Bodine.
Under the caution they take the half-way,
Sterling still leading - after 4th caution today.

Shawna into Skinner brings 5th caution of the race,
Restart green in air - Sterling still setting the pace.
Harvick to block - Gordon tapped him topsy tervy,
We got the big one - it's the Daytona demolition derby!

Some on fire & some spin through the grass,
A long clean-up - as all cars do a pit pass.
18 left on lead lap - Sterling takes the green again,
But then Busch takes over - riding like the wind.

7th caution flying - Johnson's left rear blows
Got Jeff Green too with the spinning Lowes.
A few came in - but up front it's still Kurt Busch,
But he gets shuffled out - as Jeff Gordon got the push.

Beating & banging - then Robby Gordon spins with style,
Oh, it's a mess at green as they start single file.
Sterling penalized - Ward now takes the green flag,
DJ gets knocked out and the CAT's out of the bag!
