Chicago - Tropicana 400 - 7/15/01

First time ever - NASCAR in Chicago,
Kmart blue light special on the front row.
Todd Bodine then Rudd led the pack,
Skinner's on fire - after shooting up the track.

Rudd takes restart - then Harvick flies by,
Now at 40 laps - a courtesy yellow does fly.
Most go pittin' - as Martin gets green in the air,
Tires looking bad - so too Skinner take care!

It's Benson, then Spencer - but faster is Nadeau,
Several green pitting - thinking scuffs is a clue.
Then out of the blue there is a caution for debris,
All had chunky tires - now Nadeau takes green.

Due to lapped cars - Jerry pulled away,
No one even close - as we came to ½ way.
Park in the wall - he pancaked his right side door,
Cars go a pittin' - will it be two or four?

Harvick out first - then quickly it's spoiled,
As yellow #5 waves - the racetrack is oiled.
After a long clean up - still leading is Harvick,
Attrition piling up - several engines are sick.

Nadue now smoking - he's running a little hot,
Then into the wall hard - goes Buckshot.
After pit rounds - Nemechek leads 'em to the line,
Quickly another caution - for a spinning Todd Bodine

Calculating fuel - some come get a little splash,
And with 100 to go - Kevin's by Joe in a flash.
Again debris causes a yellow slow down,
A few still need fuel and go pit bound.

Martin stayed out - thinks he can get to the end,
Several others too - but now there's no friends!
Weaving in and out - Harvick's in the chase,
Now he passes Mark to set the pace.

Todd Bodine spinning - he makes a great save,
Harvick still leading as the restart green waves.
Jeff Gordon slowing - then Tony checked up,
Sterling on his read - gave him a little bump.

Through the grass - Tony sits on the wall inside,
With less than 10 - it's a single file glide.
Harvick still on top - Pressley's on his rear,
Kevin holds 'em off - the Rookie's 2nd win this year.
