Pontiac Excitement 400 - 5/24/98

Gordon got pole for Richmond at night,
Hot NASCAR action under the lights.
Jeff Green into the wall on 186,
Damage so bad - it can't be fixed.

All cars dive into their pit bay,
As the green falls - Martin takes ½ way.
Position flip flop & laps click by,
Seemed like the groove was up high.

3rd caution out - Mike's 21 hits,
And the 28 gets a spare in the pits.
Rusty out front - Jeff goes for the lead,
He and Rusty tap & Ray is peeved.

On the restart - smoke's in the air,
On the back stretch - cars everywhere!
Got Benson, Petty, Little and Rudd,
Skinned up sheet metal looks like crud.

Again to green - Ward slides his 22,
No caution 'til other's spun in the goo.
NASCAR red flagged - for a shoot out,
Some teams smile - some teams pout.

At restart - four more to go,
Driver's trade paint - puttin' on a show!
Texas Terry bumped DJ in the rear,
To pass, then win - his 1st of the year.
